Although 1937 Tula M91/30s are not particularly rare it is unusual to find one this
close to original condition. It appears to have most of it's original parts
including the stock which has a relatively strong cartouche including the correct year. For appraisals and detailed evaluations of this rifle by Mosin Nagant collectors see
the 1937 Tula M91/30 page in the Mosin
Nagant Appraisals section. For the purpose of the appraisals the bore is
described as strong shiny rifling with some rounding of the lands. The original factory marks are strong and clear with no additional marks indicating
refurbishment, use by another country, or import information. The bolt is also
stamped matching as are the buttplate and magazine floorplate.
While the cocking knob has the Tula star which is the correct mark for this era, the bolt body itself has the earlier Izhevsk bow and arrow mark. The connector bar also appears to be a New England Westinghouse. The incorrect bolt body, although renumbered to match, is the biggest drawback to an otherwise original condition rifle. The Tula star with arrow stock cartouche and correct date are visible on the right side of the stock. The rear sight base has not been retrofitted with the pins to hold it to the barrel as was done with most M91/30s. The handguard endcaps are brass with copper rivets which is correct for 1937. The barrel bands and barrel band springs are marked with the Tula star. No import marks are found on the barrel or receiver and although there is some wear to the stock and blue, the rifle is in overall good condition considering it's age and the fact that it hasn't been refinished.
