Romanian M44 carbines are common in the US, but the Romanian M91/30 is not as well known. The Romanian M91/30 follows the same basic pattern as the Soviet M91/30 with some unique differences.  The barrel shank markings include the Romanian crest of laurels around "RPR", with the "P" elevated.  PRR stands for "People's Republic of Romania".  This is followed by the date (1955) and the serial number.  The style of receiver is the same as Romanian M44s which follow the pattern of final Izhevsk production in 1946-1948.  For detailed information on receiver features and variations see the Mosin Nagant Rifle Receiver Variations page.  The tang is marked in the same manner as Soviet Mosin Nagants with the Romanian mark of an "arrowhead in a triangle" and the date.   The Romanian "arrowhead in a triangle" is often confused with the Izhevsk "arrow in a triangle", but lacks the fletching of the arrow that is present on the Izhevsk mark.  The "arrowhead in a triangle" is also found on the bolt head, connector bar, and cocking knob.  The Romanian stock is noticeably heavier than other Mosin Nagant stocks as is evident in the picture of the barrel shank.  Other unique stock features are covered below.

The Romanian M91/30 trigger is probably the most interesting feature of these rifles.   It is unlike any other Mosin Nagant trigger and is not used on the Romanian M44s.   The front sight is also unique being a blade type with no globe, although it has grooves that would allow some type of hood to be attached.  The Romanian sling is of a deep burgundy colored leather with matching dog collars.  It is found in two lengths, one for the M44, and a longer one for the M91/30.

The Romanian parts mark is found on the follower carrier spring, interrupter/ejector, and interrupter/ejector spring.

It is also present on the magazine housing tang, barrel bands, and barrel band springs.

Another Romanian parts mark, a "C in a triangle", is found on the buttplate.   Just forward of the buttplate are typical stock markings of a triangle with several letters and a number in a circle.  The Romanian M91/30 stock is made from an M44 stock as evident by the presence of a bayonet groove below the rear sight.  The fore end is spliced just behind the front sling slot to give it a standard M91/30 length.

As noted earlier, the dog collars match the sling.  The small triangular stock mark is repeated on the side of the butt and the initials "RA" are faintly carved just above the sling slot.  This stock has an interesting plug just behind the rear barrel band that goes through to the barrel channel.  It is reinforced with a pin that goes completely through the stock.  It is unknown if this is a repair or served some other purpose.
