Finnish M27 rifles are a sought after model in their own right among Mosin Nagant
collectors. This particular example has a unique mark that has previously been
unreported on an M27. This is the "PUOLUSTUSLAITOS" Finnish Army property
mark which was used for approximately two months in 1942 before being replaced with the
"boxed SA" mark. While one would expect to find the mark on rifles
produced in 1942 it is not uncommon to find it on earlier rifles. These are
typically Russian or Soviet manufactured models which were captured and in the depot at
the time for repairs or inspection. Apparently this rifle was off the front lines of
the Continuation War during the two months for some type of repair and received the mark.
It was later marked with the typical boxed SA as most Finnish rifles are. The
bolt is stamped matching with the full serial number on the body.

This particular M27 is also a very nice example with several desirable features besides
the barrel marking. These include the one piece Finnish made stock as seen in the
pictures above, the "winged" bolt connector which is unique to the M27, and a
milled "window" on the rear sight base where the Finns renumbered it in meters.
This stock was originally intended for an M27 as it has no rear sling slot or sign of a
plug where one used to be. It also has the less common "ski trooper"
swivel installed in the front sling slot.
Thank you to "Radom" of Gunboards.com
