Although shims are typically associated with Finland, they were occasionally used by the Soviets

M38 (early stock) Note that the barrel band shoulder is closer to the rear sight base than the two carbines below. This stock was only in production for a short time in 1939 before it was redesigned and the barrel band shoulder was moved forward to the same position (relative to the buttplate) as M91 and M91/30 stocks.
